THERES NO SUCH THING AS GOOD PEOPLE
In the four months leading up to the release of Pinkish Blu’s debut EP ‘theres no such thing as good people’, I created a variety of promotional assets across different medias including photos, graphic design and physical collages.
RED HOT MOON
Social Media Campaign
Pinkish Blu were about to release their single ‘Red Hot Moon’ - so I took this as an opportunity to use the photographs we captured for their press release and sculpt them into something more alive and eye-catching. I had been working on animated collages for a week or so leading up to this idea and it all kind of came out fairly organically - albeit with a few tears and shouts of aggression towards my printer. I mainly created these animations for the band’s Instagram stories. For their feed I edited lyrics from the upcoming single onto live shots of them I captured a couple weeks earlier during their EGOISH Tour.
Merch + Artwork Design
The Pantone Card inspired single artwork for both ‘Superstar’ and ‘Coupon’ already existed and the band had determined identifying colours for the remaining 3 songs on the EP - making it almost too easy for me to come up with an idea for their merch as well as well as the final EP cover artwork.
PRESS PHOTOS
Pinkish Blu are an incredibly fun and spontaneous group to work with. The spontaneity in regards to this particular shoot is that they found out they needed new press photos for an upcoming release only a few days before the deadline…. that’s where I come in! The next morning I converted the living room area into a studio and went to work. Sometimes spontaneity, a small idea and a touch of direction goes a long way. We really got into it and had so much fun that I was able to capture so many diverse pictures in that one space - which gave me and PB so much to work with when it came to marketing their upcoming single and debut EP.
One thing I’ve found, especially when doing solo, one-on-one portraits, is that the vibe in the room must be right! This could be as simple as adjusting the music in the room to the feel you’re going for in the photograph. If you put on something poppy and upbeat about sunshine but you’re trying to get a serious/emotional photograph from your subject - it’s probably not going to happen. Sometimes even getting the subject to pick the music to make them feel more comfortable can work in your favour too.
